Conference Scholarship Opportunities

MAEOE has a limited number of scholarships to assist educators and college students in attending the 2026 Annual Conference in Flint. 

The application deadline is June 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
Scholarship winners will be notified by July 15, 2026.

2026 Scholarship opportunities include:

    • Professional Scholarships
    • Student Scholarships
    • Environmental Educator Certification-College Associate Program Scholarships (EEC-CAP)

Professional and Student Scholarships are funded in part by proceeds and donations from the 2025 MAEOE Conference Silent Auction and Center for Great Lakes Literacy.

EEC-CAP Scholarships are funded through a North American Association of Environmental Education (NAAEE) State Capacity Building Grant, which MAEOE was awarded for 2026.

All scholarship recipients will receive:

  • Full conference registration (October 2-4, 2026)
  • A one-year Individual or Student MAEOE Membership
  • One ticket to the MAEOE Mash (Friday, October 2)
  • One ticket to the MAEOE Awards Banquet (Saturday, October 3)

Environmental Educator Certification-College Associate Program Scholarship recipients will also receive:

  • Free admission into the Strand 1 workshop (Thursday, October 1, 2026 - 12:30-3:30 p.m.)
  • Free admission into first Strand 2 workshop (Friday, October 2, 2026 - 8:30-11:30 a.m.)
  • Free admission into second Strand 2 workshop (Sunday, October 4 - TBD)

All scholarship recipients are responsible for covering their own:

  • Lodging costs
  • Transportation to and from Flint
  • Any field experience fees

    Requirements:

    Professional and student scholarship recipients must attend the full conference from October 2-4, 2026 and are expected to perform 1-2 hours of volunteer work during the conference.

    EEC-CAP scholarship recipients must attend all EEC workshops and the full conference from October 1-4, 2026.

    Professional Scholarship Application

    Eligibility: 

      • Applicant must be a current classroom teacher or working/volunteering in a non-formal setting such as a nature center, zoo, museum, camp, etc.
      • You may only receive this scholarship one time.
      • Educators must include a letter of support from a colleague or MAEOE member with their application.

    Selection Criteria:

    Preferred applicants will clearly identify how they use environmental and/or outdoor education materials, programs and/or community partners in their classroom or non-formal venue. They will also describe how attending the MAEOE conference will provide benefit to their environmental or outdoor education efforts. Ideal candidates will also demonstrate how their professional work supports Great Lakes literacy and stewardship.

    Student & EEC-CAP Scholarship Application

    Eligibility:

      • Applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a Michigan college or university.
      • You may only receive the student scholarship one time.
      • You may only receive the EEC-CAP scholarship one time.
      • Students must submit a letter of support from a professor or mentor with their application.

    Selection Criteria:

    Preferred applicants will be enrolled in a major that reflects their interest in education, natural resources, recreation or science and will clearly describe how attending the MAEOE Conference and participating in EEC-CAP (if applicable) will support their future work in the field of environmental and/or outdoor education.
